Gunpowder Fishing Report

1/24/08
OK the low down is simple. The Gunpowder is still low 25 cfs this morning, clear, cold, and the fishing is less then stellar. In fact if you must wet a line this weekend i highly reccomend hitting the spring creeks in South Central Pa.

On the other hand......Fly Tying is great!! Reports tell us tyers are rising steadily to many offerings at Great Feathers. Some of the top producers for a trophy fly tyer have been:

Whiting Cree Necks and Saddles
Collins Hackle Farms Neck sets and Hen Sets (you get neck and saddle from Collins)
Landrail Subs!!!
Golden Plover
English Red Grouse
Cookshill partridge
Gaelic Supreme Hooks
European Jay Skins and Wings
Jackdaw scalps, Waterhen feathers, Pearsall's silks and floss...well the list goes on....

We also now have in stock flat lead wire specifically for Czech Nymphs and just about any...no make that any product you need to tie trout flies and pleanty for Salt water Tyers too!

Did I mention Jungle Cock necks or 12 packs?

Tight Lines and Bright Flies,
Mike

Gunpowder Fly fishing In The New year

Happy new Year!
We're looking forward to great things this year as Maryland's premier Fly Fishing and Tying Shop! Thank you all for making the last 3 years (of our 15 under one owner) the best 3 we've ever had. If you haven't seen our selection of fly tying materials, Fly's tied for the Gunpowder, Rods, Reels, Books and MUCH more you're in for a pleasant surprise. We are proud to be a traditional Fly Shop with the best gear for Mid-Atlantic Fly Fishing and beyond. Our staff has lived locally and fished the Gunpowder and other local trout streams (yes..there are many in Balto. Co.) for 40 years! Combined we have over 100 years experience with local trout fishing...a claim NO others dare make.

Now for the fishing report.
The Gunpowder is running at 20 cfs, is cold (42) and the fishing is VERY slow, regardless of what you might hear or read elsewhere, while trout can and are being caught it's not good. Below Glencoe the river is running at 100 cfs and VERY spotty due to changing conditions with all the recent rain. Check out our forums to see where you SHOULD be fishing in the winter, or stop by and we'll let you know where to make the best of your limited time. We respect our customers too much to offer glowing fishing reports when that's just not the case locally.

Fly Tying Classes
Saturdays in February we are offering beginner and intermediate classes taught by a tier with 35 years tying and 40 years fishing the Gunpowder. Please call or e-mail for details. The classes will run from 12-3pm and the cost is $40.00, advance registration is required and class size will be restricted to 4 so you get the attention you need and deserve.

Again, thanks for making our year another record and we look forward to serving you for another 15 years!
