Great Feathers is a Baltimore and Gunpowder River area brick and mortar fly shop staffed by fly fishermen and fly tiers with a passion for the sport. Our blog posts provide you with the latest stream reports on the Gunpowder and interesting posts on fly fishing anf fly tying information.
The Gunpowder is running at 108
cfs this morning and is 61 degrees at
Masemore. Sulfurs and
caddis have been hatching and the trout are looking up! If you can stay till dark the spinner falls are getting heavy depending on weather...today's forecast high of 78 should make for perfect conditions.

"Mike,While driving home yesterday after visiting your shop - I got to thinking of how great it was to be able to take the time to drive down and pay you all a visit. I've been fortunate to be able to visit many different fly shops over the years, both here and out west and each one has it's own character. Not many though are so eager to take the time to help out someone who has a need. I believe they are just too caught up in trying to run a business that they sometimes forget the customer. This newly found passion of mine of tying the classic Atlantic patterns is something that has a great learning curve. After tying for a long time now, I thought I'd be able to just step right into it and not need any guidance but how wrong I was. Mike, your hospitality and tips helped me out
alot and I appreciate it. You guys have a fine shop in Great Feathers and I was glad to be able to pay you all a visit. Pleas pass this note onto Mike - the owner for me and let him know how much I enjoyed the short time I spent there. Last night I sat out back with my lab retriever at my side and a beer on the table, and read the book you sold me. This book is just amazing and very helpful. Today, after doing some yard work, I'll be at my tying desk. Once again, it was great being in the company of genuine
flyfishermen yesterday. Thanks Again!!!

The river is running at 197 cfs at the Falls Rd. gauge and 330 cfs at Glencoe it was discolored at York Rd. this morning and fishing the next few days will be hit or miss. This water level can be VERY fun for streamer fishing but frankly other then that your best bet is LARGE Stonefly and Helgramite nymphs.
Temps in Sparks at 10 am are 63 sunny and a light breeze. Not optimal conditions for fishing but worth a shot in the upper river.
