Fall on the Gunpowder

The stream is running at 111-113 cfs, almost a perfect flow. Cooler evening and daytime temps will do nothing but get the trout moving and feeding even more then usual.

As of right now midges, some tricos are effective from daybreak till about 10 am. Streamers, attracter Dries and Soft Hackles, along with terretrials are the mainstay during the day. Also, on overcast days we are seeing fish working to small (18-20) BWO's and you can expect this to increase as we move closer to October.

Many anglers overlook a lot of great fishing water, hence less pressured, below the Bluemount area. The lower section has many wild browns...a few holdover rainbows from stockings...and on the whole you work a bit harder for your fish but, they are larger on average with some true trophies for the patient angler.

The other good news with cooler weather is we will begin to see less boat and tube traffic on the stream ans can enjoy our fly fishing the way we like....without being hit by a canoe! :)

Tight Lines and Bright Flies,

Mike
