Stream Conditions- July 9th, 2010

The Gunpowder river is low and clear. The river at Falls road is flowing 35 cfs and 64 cfs at Glencoe road. The flow has been backed off due to the lack of rain over the past weeks. For best fishing conditions, fish in the early morning or in the evenings when it is hot.

Best results are with ants, beetles, and hoppers or crickets. Throw your flies into shady spots along the bank and watch for a small sip. Fish will be keying on terrestrials for the rest of the hot summer. The are a great food source and fish generally go after them hard and fast.

When the conditions are like this, the emphasis is on your presentation. Move slowly and quietly in the water. Clear and low also means longer leaders. Be deliberate with your casting and be as stealthy as you can.
