Stream Conditions- October 13th, 2011

The flows are improving and the temps are up. As of this morning, the Falls Rd.gauge read 150 and rising with a temp of 62 degrees and the Glencoe Rd. gauge read 290.

The changes in the flows are consistent with spillover coming over the dam. This is a marked improvement and the water temps are up due to the warmest water in Prettyboy coming over. Conditions are great for this time of the year and the reports have been consistently decent for fish being caught.

As the flows increase, the water may get a bit chalky and this is a great time for your streamer patterns like wooly buggers and matukas. Black is always good! Caddis have been sporadically hatching and surface activity has been good. Blue wing olive are working especially on overcast days. Small pheasant tail nymphs, caddis pupa and midge pupa are best bets for subsurface.

If the water gets clear, use smaller tippet sizes down to 6x or 7x depending o the size of your flies. As the temeratures get lower, use florocarbon tippets for nymphs. It will be more translucent and will not spook wary fish.
